Thieves target cars at OP day care centers

Overland Park police are investigating several car break-ins that happened Wednesday morning outside day-care centers.

Four vehicles had windows broken out by thieves targeting purses or other items left in the vehicles by parents dropping children off, according to police.

The thefts were reported in the 10400 block of Mastin St., the 15000 block of Newton Drive and the 7400 block of West 161st Street.

Police warned people to lock their cars and take purses and wallets with them when they leave their vehicles. Other valuable items also should be locked in trunks or not left in plain sight.
