Police arrest man in wheelchair fleeing south Kansas City shooting scene

Kansas City police arrested a man in a wheelchair fleeing the scene of a south Kansas City nightclub shooting that left a patron with an abdominal wound early Monday.

The shooting happened about 2 a.m. at Mac’s South Kansas City Jazz & Blues Club at 11816 Blue Ridge Blvd.

Two off-duty officers outside the club heard two gunshots inside the building. They found the victim, a man in his 20s, lying on the floor next to the music booth.

A witness reported seeing a man in a wheelchair armed with a blue handgun with an extended clip on his lap. Officers went outside and spotted the man traveling east at a brisk pace. They arrested him moments later and cited him for carrying a concealed weapon, police said.

Details on what prompted the shooting remain under investigation.

Police arrested another man at the scene on an unrelated matter. Police said they had increased patrols in the area because of prior incidents.
