Clerk is wounded when gunman tries to hold up south KC store

A south Kansas City store clerk was shot early Tuesday during an attempted robbery, police said.

The incident happened about 1:30 a.m. at the Mini Mart at Bannister and Raytown roads. The clerk was cleaning the store when a gunman approached the front door. The clerk refused to let him inside because the store was closed.

The gunman fired several shots through the door, striking the clerk. Unable to get in, the gunman fled.

The clerk’s injuries were not life-threatening.

Police did not have a detailed description of the gunman.

Anyone with information about the shooting should call the Tips Hotline at 816-474-8477.
