A 23-year-old Overland Park man was sentenced Thursday to 27 years and six months in prison for robbing and sexually assaulting two women in Olathe.

Jesse M. Akins III was sentenced in Johnson County District Court, where he pleaded guilty in November to charges of rape, aggravated criminal sodomy, aggravated robbery, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, attempted rape and theft.

The first incident occurred in December 2013 in the 11800 block of South Shannan Street.

A 21-year-old woman was getting into her car when Akins forced her back into her vehicle at knifepoint. Akins then drove to the rear of a nearby business, where he forced the woman into the back seat of her car and tore off her pants and underwear. She was robbed of cash before her attacker ran off.

The second incident occurred in July 2014. Akins broke into a 25-year-old woman’s apartment in the 1700 block of North Lennox Drive. Armed with a metal rod, he raped and sodomized her multiple times. He also beat her and robbed her of cash.
