Independence police officer shot, injured at motel

An Independence police officer was injured in a shooting at a motel Wednesday, according to authorities.

The shooting occurred at the Deluxe Inn at 10301 E. U.S. 40, according to police. Officers were called there for a reported assault about 7:20 p.m.

The officer’s injury was not life-threatening.

Independence police had a suspect in custody Wednesday night.
