A convicted sex offender who admitted to creating child pornography of a girl he allegedly abused was sentenced Thursday in Platte County Circuit Court to 135 years in prison.

Charles R. Burge, 36, of Kansas City, North, pleaded guilty Dec. 22 to three counts of first-degree statutory rape, sexual exploitation of a minor, enticement of a child and endangering the welfare of a child.

The investigation began when a foreign law enforcement agency asked the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to identify a child seen in 140 child pornography images now known as the “Lexie” series.

The series depicted four years of abuse of a girl who was between 8 and 11 years old, said Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd.

Homeland Security investigators in Boston began in March 2014 to try to identify the victim. Authorities determined that she was a girl in Platte County.

Platte County deputies and federal investigators searched a Kansas City, North, home on Oct. 3, 2014. They found home furnishings and decor that matched those appearing in some of the Lexie images. Burge and the girl were in the home when the search warrant was served.

Because of previous rape convictions in Marion County, Ark., Burge also was charged in Platte County as a predatory sexual offender. When arrested, he was on probation in Platte County for failing to register as a sex offender.

“Law enforcement used some truly cutting-edge technology to locate and ultimately bring this defendant to justice,” Zahnd said Thursday. “Anyone who trades in child pornography should know we are hunting for you; we will find you and we will do everything we can to bring you justice.”
