Dispute between drivers might have led to shooting on Interstate 70, Independence police say

Independence police said Monday that they think the shooting of a father and his 7-year-old daughter as they drove on Interstate 70 on Sunday night was not a random act but was prompted by a dispute with someone in another vehicle.

The father has been released from a hospital but his daughter remains hospitalized, police said. She is listed in stable condition.

Police said they were alerted about 6:30 p.m. that the two had been shot as they traveled west on I-70 between Lee’s Summit and Noland roads. The injured man pulled off his car on Noland Road after the shooting.

The shooter’s vehicle was described as either a gold 1990s Mercury Mystique or Ford Contour.
