Lawrence police officer shoots armed man
A Lawrence police officer shot an armed man during a disturbance early Sunday morning about two miles west of the University of Kansas campus.
Police were investigating reports of shots fired at a home near the intersection of Harvard Road and Kasold Drive about 12:30 a.m. The first responding officer contacted individuals inside the home, including one armed with a firearm. During the encounter the officer discharged his firearm, striking the individual. A second officer arrived shortly after the shooting.
Medical personnel were summoned immediately and the man was transported by ambulance and later flown to a Kansas City area hospital for treatment.
The Lawrence Police Department requested the assistance of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in investigating the incident. No officers were injured in the incident but both of the first responding Lawrence Police Officers are on paid administrative leave per department policy. Their names were not released.
