A former high school teacher in Olathe admitted Wednesday that she had sex with a 16-year-old student.

Jeana Marie Fleming, 33, pleaded guilty in Johnson County District Court to one count of having unlawful sexual relations.

Fleming and the boy had sex in December 2014 while she was a teacher in the Olathe school district’s alternative education program for high school students.

She was charged under the Kansas law that makes it a crime for a teacher to have sex with a student at the same school, even if the student is above the age of consent, which is 16 in Kansas.

Assistant District Attorney Keith Henderson said Wednesday that the boy reported the relationship to school officials in May. He said that he and Fleming had sex one time at her apartment in Olathe.

The next day, school officials talked to Fleming and she admitted to the allegation, Henderson said. Fleming resigned her job at the time, and state education officials said this week that they are seeking the permanent surrender of her teaching license.

As part of a plea agreement, Fleming is required to obtain a sex offender evaluation and follow any recommendations. She is also not allowed to contact the victim.

Her sentencing hearing has been set for April 12. Under Kansas law, she will also be required to register as a sex offender.
