A Kansas City woman was sentenced Friday to 23 years in prison for stabbing a Smithville man to death in 1990.
Annette S. Davis was arrested in 2013 when the Clay County Sheriff’s Department reopened the cold case. Davis was implicated by fingerprints. Her prints were not on file at the time of the murder of 70-year-old Clifford McClanahan.
Prosecutors said Davis and McClanahan had been dating but that he slapped her when he caught her smoking crack. Davis stabbed McClanahan 12 times with a kitchen knife and left him to die.
