Charges filed in Overland Park crash that killed part-time police officer
A 24-year-old Olathe man has been charged in connection with an Overland Park traffic crash that killed a part-time Louisburg, Kan., police officer.
Dana Patton is charged in Johnson County District Court with alternative counts of reckless second-degree murder or involuntary manslaughter in the death of 58-year-old David M. Stubbs.
The wreck occurred Oct. 16 at 123rd Street and Metcalf Avenue.
According to Overland Park police, Stubbs was killed when the driver of a stolen car ran a red light and collided with his vehicle. The driver of the stolen vehicle ran from the scene but was arrested a short time later.
At the time of the wreck, Patton was wanted on two warrants charging him with violations of his bond conditions in two auto theft cases, according to Johnson County court records.
He also is charged in the new case with aggravated battery, failure to stop at a traffic crash and obstruction of legal process. His bond is set at $1 million, and his next court appearance is scheduled Thursday.
