KC police officer revives assault victim found covered in blood
A Kansas City police officer revived an assault victim who had lost consciousness and stopped breathing early Monday after being beaten by two assailants with a metal pipe.
Officers responded to the intersection of Independence and Elmwood avenues just before 2 a.m. and found the victim lying in the westbound lanes covered with blood.
The officers took two suspects into custody. Officers located an 18-inch metal pipe nearby. Details of what prompted the attack were not available.
While talking to the officers, the victim became unresponsive and stopped breathing. The officer immediately began CPR.
After a few minutes, the victim began breathing on his own and regained consciousness. He was taken to a hospital with head trauma and was listed in stable but critical condition, according to police.
