Man and woman are killed in Kansas City
Kansas City police are investigating the deaths early Friday of two people near 45th Street and Indiana Avenue.
Officers checking on a possible shooting shortly after midnight found a man and a woman dead on a street lined with one-story bungalows. It appeared both had been shot, police said.
More than seven hours later, detectives and crime scene investigators remained at the scene gathering evidence. Yellow crime scene markers sat in the driveway, likely marking where bullet casings had been found. Investigators had carried several large evidence bags from the small, one-story house.
According to a neighbor, one body was found in the driveway and another on a nearby street corner. The neighbor heard gunshots about midnight.
The home’s current resident, a woman who has a young son who often visits, has lived in the home about a year, said the neighbor, who had been thinking about moving from the area because “there’s a lot going on in this neighborhood and it’s not safe.”
The home is in ZIP code 64130, the city’s deadliest. There have been 30 homicides in that ZIP code since Jan. 1, 2014, according to records kept by The Star.
Investigators ask anyone with information to call the Tips Hotline at 816-474-8477.
