A 37-year-old Overland Park man was charged Wednesday in the city’s first homicide of 2016.

Johnson County prosecutors charged Christopher Duane Wallace with premeditated first-degree murder in the death of 35-year-old Jennifer Lopez.

Lopez was found dead late Monday afternoon inside an apartment in the 6100 block of Foster Street.

Wallace, described by Overland Park police as an acquaintance of Lopez, was detained at the scene and later arrested.

Court documents do not say how Lopez was killed.

Wallace’s attorney, Carl Cornwell, said he was told by authorities that Wallace appeared to be under the influence of drugs and hallucinating when police arrived.

A judge set Wallace’s bond at $1 million, and he made his first court appearance Wednesday afternoon. He is scheduled to be back in court Jan. 28.
