Preliminary hearing set for parents in killing of 7-year-old son Adrian Jones
An April preliminary hearing has been set for the Kansas City, Kan., couple charged with killing a 7-year-old boy whose body is believed to have been fed to pigs.
Michael A. Jones, 45, and Heather Jones, 29, are charged in Wyandotte County District Court with child abuse and felony first-degree murder in the death of Adrian Jones.
Prosecutors said Tuesday that they are likely to upgrade the charges to premeditated first-degree murder, which could carry a possible sentence of life in prison with no chance of parole for 50 years.
Authorities discovered human remains on property rented by Heather and Michael Jones in November after a domestic disturbance.
Police learned that Adrian, the son of Michael Jones and stepson of Heather Jones, had been missing for several months. They also determined that his body was fed to pigs on the property.
Michael Jones is being held in lieu of a $10 million bond. Bond for Heather Jones is set at $5 million.
District Judge Mike Grosko on Tuesday set the preliminary hearing for April 8.
