Independence officer crosses paths with speeding driver
An Independence police officer headed to assist another officer Wednesday morning came upon an unexpected emergency.
The officer, driving with his cruiser’s lights and siren on, saw a Jeep speeding west on East Truman Road. After the Jeep’s driver ran a red light, she lost control and the Jeep veered into the road’s eastbound lanes, colliding with a Kia near Menown Avenue.
Emergency medical personnel took three people from the Kia to hospitals. Police arrested the Jeep’s driver after they determined she had a felony probation violation warrant for her arrest. They also took her to a hospital.
Investigators recovered a loaded handgun, ammunition and marijuana from the Jeep, as well as a large amount of new clothing bearing price tags but without retail store shopping bags.
