Teen sentenced for robbery of elderly Grandview man

A Grandview teenager was sentenced Thursday to 26 years in prison for the home invasion robbery of an 85-year-old man.

Michael L. Bray, 19, was among a group of young people who forced their way into the victim’s home in 11900 block of Belmont Avenue last September and stole items, including several firearms.

Video from a surveillance system on the victim’s house showed Bray pull a handgun and point it at the victim before Bray and at least half a dozen others entered the home, according to court documents. A relative who recognized Bray after the video was broadcast by the media took him to police.

On Thursday, Jackson County Circuit Judge Jack Grate sentenced Bray to 13 years for first-degree robbery and 13 years for first-degree burglary. He ordered the sentences to run consecutively.

Bray, who pleaded guilty in April, was the first suspect sentenced in the case.
