Two Kansas City, Kan., men were charged Friday with firing gunshots at a Lenexa police officer.

The officer was not injured in the Wednesday night incident.

Samir Arredondo-Aragon, 21, and Ruben L. Rodriguez, 29, were charged in Johnson County District Court with a felony count each of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

Bond for each was set at $500,000.

Lenexa police said the officer was in an unmarked car conducting surveillance in an ongoing investigation when he began to follow a vehicle that left the area.

The officer called for other officers in marked police cars to stop the vehicle. As he followed the vehicle into Shawnee, its occupants fired multiple shots at the officer, police said.

Other officers used a tire deflation device to disable the car. Rodriguez and Arredondo-Aragon were arrested.

They made their initial court appearances Friday afternoon. Both remained jailed.
