Car slams into woman and south Kansas City house

A Kansas City woman was injured late Wednesday and a home was heavily damaged when the woman’s boyfriend allegedly struck her and the house with his car.

Police said the 46-year-old woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the incident, which began about 10:45 p.m. Wednesday when she jumped out of the car and ran toward a house in the 4900 block of East Red Bridge Road.

According to police, the driver attempted to strike her with the vehicle but missed and hit the front of the house. A man inside at the time was in a different room.

“He buried the front of his car in my house,” said the man, who asked that his name not be used because the driver remained on the loose. “It sounded like a bomb went off.”

The driver backed up and again drove toward the woman, striking her with the vehicle. He fled west on Red Bridge, police said.

When the homeowner got to the front of his house, he found a “nice huge hole” and saw the woman standing in the front yard clutching her midsection and saying she was hurt.

Police said the injured woman and the driver were in a relationship that she was trying to break off.

The homeowner said he did not know them.

He spent the rest of the night boarding up the damage. On Thursday, he was awaiting a visit from an insurance adjuster.

“I’ve never seen anything like this, except in the movies,” he said.
