Man is charged with rape of 67-year-old Grandview woman

A Kansas City man has been charged with breaking into the home of a 67-year-old Grandview woman and raping her.

Surveillance video from a nearby restaurant that the man allegedly left without paying his bill helped lead detectives to him, according to court documents.

Peter H. Hudson, who is on parole for robbery, was charged in Jackson County District Court with rape, first-degree burglary and second-degree robbery.

The attack occurred Monday in the 1500 block of Jones Avenue.

The victim told police that a man kicked in the door of her apartment and raped her. She was forced to take a shower before the man tied her up and forced her into a closet. Before fleeing in the woman’s car, the man told her he would kill her if she told anyone what happened, according to court documents.

A few hours before the attack, detectives learned that a man matching the rape suspect’s description had left a restaurant about two blocks away without paying. A restaurant server told police that the man was “creepy” and had asked her for her number.

Another detective recognized Hudson from the restaurant video because of a prior contact with him. Police had also investigated Hudson a few days before the rape because he had been seen prowling around houses in the same neighborhood, according to court documents.

Hudson, 34, was arrested on New Year’s Eve and denied committing the crime. But detectives noted that he had a scar on his abdomen that the rape victim had described.
