Kansas City, Kan., homicide victim is identified

A man shot to death Tuesday night in Kansas City, Kan., has been identified as 39-year-old Jerome Simmons.

Simmons was found dead inside a residence when officers arrived on a shooting call in the 1100 block of Kimball Avenue, police said.

A short time later, a person of interest in the shooting turned himself in, police said.

It was the city’s first homicide of 2016.
