Kansas City playground homicide victim identified

Police on Wednesday identified a woman found dead last week on a Kansas City apartment complex playground as Shaunda L. Thomas.

Thomas, 35, was the victim of a homicide, police said.

Her body was discovered the morning of June 4 in the 7000 block of Crabapple Lane.

Police have not released a cause of death, but neighbors told police that they heard gunshots in the area several hours before her body was found.
