UMKC student charged in campus gun threat

A student at the University of Missouri-Kansas City has been charged with threatening another student with a gun inside a campus dorm room.

According to court documents, 19-year-old Levi C. Musgrave was arrested Dec. 17 inside Johnson Hall at 5000 Oak St. after police allegedly found a loaded 9 mm handgun in his backpack.

The gun had been reported stolen in Independence, according to the documents filed in Jackson County Circuit Court. A digital scale and 31 grams of marijuana also were found in the backpack.

The student who made the complaint said that on Dec. 16 he had been in his car with Musgrave and another person the student didn’t know. The student later discovered his wallet, phone and room key were missing.

When he returned to Johnson Hall, the student talked to Musgrave. The student’s wallet and a gun were on a mattress next to Musgrave, according to the documents.

When the student asked about his wallet, Musgrave reportedly pointed the gun at him and said, “You shouldn’t mess with me,” according to the allegations.

Court documents said Musgrave was arrested while getting off an elevator on the third floor of Johnson Hall, which is his address in court records.

He is charged with unlawful use of a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and theft. Musgrave’s bond was set at $10,000.
