Gunman with walking cane robs Independence bank

A man carrying a walking cane and armed with a handgun robbed an Independence bank Tuesday afternoon.

The robbery occurred about 2:40 p.m. at the UMB branch at 13813 E. 39th St.

According to the FBI, the robber, holding a gun, handed a teller a note demanding money.

After taking money, he fled, leaving the note and his cane behind.

The robber was described as in his 40s or 50s. He was about 5 feet 8 inches tall and wore black gloves and a surgical mask.
