16-year-old Lawrence boy arrested in stabbing death of grandmother
Lawrence police said a 16-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the stabbing death of his grandmother.
Police said they were called about 11:50 p.m. Monday to an apartment in the 1200 block of George Court, where the teen told them he found his grandmother dead inside her home nearby just off North Michigan Street.
Lawrence police identified the grandmother as Deborah Bretthauer, 67.
Officers went to the home and found Bretthauer dead. They reported that she had “obvious traumatic injuries.”
The boy was taken in for questioning, and after the interview he was booked into the Douglas County Juvenile Detention Center on suspicion of first-degree murder, according to police. He was being held without bond.
