Kansas City police standoff following robbery ends peacefully

What started as the ostensible street purchase of some tennis shoes late Saturday morning ended in the early afternoon at the end of a two-and-a-half hour standoff with police in Kansas City.

A police spokesman said the event ended peacefully about 2 p.m. in the 4700 block of East 43rd Street.

Police first received a report of a robbery in the neighborhood about 11:30 a.m. when the man who wanted to buy the shoes said the prospective seller robbed him and then shot in his direction with a handgun.

Officers canvassing the neighborhood spotted the suspect and chased him into a home. Police surrounded the house and a few hours later the suspect, a juvenile, and five other people emerged from the house.
