Cab fare scofflaw arrested while beating woman
Kansas City police summoned early Tuesday to find a non-paying cab customer ended up rescuing a woman who was being viciously beaten.
A taxi driver called police just after midnight from outside a home in the 5300 block of Byrams Ford Road. The cabbie said that after picking up a man at a bar in Lenexa and driving him to that address, the man bolted from the cab without paying and ran to the rear of a house.
As officers approached the house they heard a woman screaming inside. Through a window they could see a man sitting on top of a woman and punching her in the face, according to police reports.
The officers then kicked in the front door and arrested the man, who was the same person who ran from the cab.
The woman went to a hospital to be treated for unspecified injuries. The man went to jail.
