Five hospitalized after car fleeing KC police collides with another vehicle

Five people were taken to the hospital Thursday afternoon after a car fleeing police collided with another vehicle near 75th Street and Holmes Road.

The incident began about 2 p.m. when police officers saw a black Chevy Impala they suspected of having been carjacked near Gregory Boulevard and U.S. 71.

The driver fled and the car struck a GMC Terrain SUV carrying a couple and their infant son.

The child appeared uninjured, police said, but was taken to the hospital. His mother was in critical condition and was expected to undergo surgery. The father was treated for injuries.

Two people in the Impala also were taken to the hospital.
