KC police seek clues in fatal shooting in Power & Light District parking garage
Kansas City police said Monday they were continuing to track leads in a fatal shooting Sunday morning in a downtown parking garage.
Nicholas Preuitt was shot and killed just before 3 a.m. in a Power & Light District parking garage at 151 E. 13th St.
Preuitt, 27, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. When police arrived, officers found him in the passenger seat of a vehicle that had been among those stopped in a line of vehicles exiting the garage at the time of the shooting.
Witnesses told police that an argument preceded the shooting. The suspected shooter reportedly fled the scene in a small- to medium-size black SUV in an unknown direction. A detailed description of the suspect was not released, but he was described as having long, braided hair.
Officials with the Cordish Co., which developed and manages the district, issued a written statement expressing condolences to Preuitt’s family.
“There is nothing that we take more seriously than the safety of our customers, and we take great pride in the record of safety that we have had in our seven years of operation,” the statement said. “We will continue to work closely with the Kansas City Police Department and the city of Kansas City to ensure that downtown remains one of the safest neighborhoods in Kansas City.”
Police urge anyone with information about the crime to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (816-474-8477).
