18-year-old Kansas City man is charged with murder in August shooting
An 18-year-old has been charged with murder in the August shooting of Owen Smith, 20, in Kansas City.
Jackson County prosecutors charged Adonis E. Morris with second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action.
Prosecutors accused Morris of firing more than a dozen shots at Smith, who was driving a blue Chevrolet Malibu in the 3600 block of East 60th Street on Aug. 4.
Smith suffered a gunshot wound to the head and died the next day.
Witnesses told police that Morris wrongly accused Smith of showing gang signs before the shooting.
Morris was in custody at the Jackson County jail Tuesday. Prosecutors requested that bond be set at $250,000.
