Clay County juvenile is charged in Liberty stabbing death
Clay County authorities have charged a 16-year-old boy in the stabbing death of another teen Saturday in Liberty.
The teen faces one count of voluntary manslaughter in the slaying of Shawn Bonchek, 17, of Liberty. Police and an ambulance crew were sent to the 1200 block of Pier Street to investigate a reported stabbing. There, officers found Bonchek, who was taken to a hospital and later died.
Details of what led to the stabbing were not released. The 16-year-old, a Liberty resident, remained in juvenile custody Tuesday. His next date in court is set for Feb. 4. His name was not released because he is a juvenile.
Liberty police continued their investigation on Tuesday.
