Man charged in fatal shooting of rapper outside Overland Park bar
A 34-year-old Kansas City man is in jail under a $15 million bond for the killing of musician Jurl L. Carter outside of an Overland Park bar.
Dale Maurice Willis is charged with first-degree murder. He had his first court appearance Monday in Johnson County District Court.
Carter, 24, was shot to death early on Sept. 16 outside the Roxy, 7230 W 75th St.
Jim Kilroy, who owns the bar, said the shooting broke out after a group of men started to fight outside the club. He said Carter got into a car in front of the club and started to back away when other men ran after the car.
Carter was a rapper and musician from Olathe who performed under the names Yunglyfe Carter and Boogy. He was a father of two and was expecting a third child.
