Man charged in fatal shooting of rapper outside Overland Park bar

Dale Maurice Willis, 34, of Kansas City, has charged with first-degree murder in the Sept. 16 shooting death of musician Jurl L. Carter outside the Roxy, a bar at 7230 W. 75th St. Willis made his first court appearance Monday, and bond was set at $15 million.

A 34-year-old Kansas City man is in jail under a $15 million bond for the killing of musician Jurl L. Carter outside of an Overland Park bar.

Dale Maurice Willis is charged with first-degree murder. He had his first court appearance Monday in Johnson County District Court.

Carter, 24, was shot to death early on Sept. 16 outside the Roxy, 7230 W 75th St.

Jim Kilroy, who owns the bar, said the shooting broke out after a group of men started to fight outside the club. He said Carter got into a car in front of the club and started to back away when other men ran after the car.

Carter was a rapper and musician from Olathe who performed under the names Yunglyfe Carter and Boogy. He was a father of two and was expecting a third child.
