Shooting on Garfield Avenue sparks homicide investigation

Kansas City homicide detectives were investigating the shooting death of a 49-year-old man late Wednesday in the 4000 block of Garfield Avenue.

Officers went to the area just before 10 p.m. to investigate shots being fired. They found William McCallop dead inside a residence. Investigators learned that McCallop allegedly had been shot by an acquaintance. Officers arrested that person inside a residence at 43rd Street and Wayne Avenue, police said.

Details of what led to the shooting were not released.

It is the city’s 103rd homicide of the year. There were 81 homicides in 2014.
