Gunman steals backpack and shoes from Kansas City student

Kansas City Star

A gunman took the shoes and backpack from a middle school student walking to school Wednesday in the northeast area of Kansas City.

The crime happened shortly after 8 a.m. at the intersection of Thompson and Denver avenues. The student said a white vehicle pulled up to him and a man jumped out brandishing a silver and black handgun.

The man yelled to the student, “Give me all of your stuff,” according to police.

The boy handed over his backpack, but the gunman demanded, “Take your shoes off.” The student complied. The robber then patted down the boy to see if there was anything in his pockets.

The gunman told the student not to look at him. He then jumped back into the vehicle and it sped away.

The student ran to Northeast Middle School and alerted the school’s security guards. The boy told police he was shaken but not harmed.

Police did not have a detailed description of the gunman and his accomplice.
