Pickup truck leads police on chase through Kansas City
The driver of a pickup truck led police on a chase through east Kansas City on Tuesday afternoon before being taken into custody near an industrial area north of Independence Avenue.
The chase began about 3 p.m. when officers tried to stop a man driving a pickup truck erratically near 34th Street and Indiana Avenue, police said.
The driver did not stop and officers initially chose not to pursue because the traffic violations did not appear serious enough, said Capt. Tye Grant, a police department spokesman.
But police observed that the truck continued to run red lights and drive erratically. Officers decided to pursue the truck, which stopped in the 200 block of Belmont Avenue. The driver fled on foot but was caught by police.
The driver remained in custody Tuesday night as police investigated possible charges.
