Stepmother of missing KCK boy is jailed
The stepmother of a missing Kansas City, Kan., boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder and child abuse.
She was booked into the jail about 4 a.m. Thursday but has not been charged.
Prosecutors previously charged the boy’s father, Michael A. Jones, with child abuse. He is being held in the Wyandotte County jail on a bond of $10 million.
Jones was arrested the day before Thanksgiving after Kansas City, Kan., police were called to an armed domestic disturbance. He faces charges of aggravated battery and aggravated assault in that incident.
While investigating the disturbance, police learned that Jones’ 7-year-old son was missing. On Thanksgiving, while searching property where Jones and his wife lived in the 5200 block of North 99th Street, police found human remains in a barn.
A relative of Jones’ wife said she told him that the boy’s body had been fed to pigs on the property.
Police have not commented on that allegation and have not said if the remains have been identified.
Jones’ wife is in the Wyandotte County jail and can be held up to 48 hours without being charged.
