Gunman hails taxi cab to make getaway after robbery at Westport restaurant
A gunman who attacked the owner of a Westport restaurant early Tuesday hailed a taxi cab to make his getaway, Kansas City police said.
The incident occurred about 7:45 a.m. the 1800 block of Westport Road. The owner of Cupini’s restaurant, a man in his 70s, told police that he was opening his business when someone hit him in the head with a gun and knocked him down. The gunman stole his wallet and took some cash.
Witnesses told police that the robber fled in a cab. The cab driver, unaware of the crime, drove him to a Midtown neighborhood.
