Beware of police phone scam
The Kansas Highway Patrol is warning of a telephone scam from someone claiming to be the “state police.”
A Kansas City area resident reported receiving a call from someone who said they were an officer with the state police who was investigating suspicious activity with the resident’s social security number and wanted information.
When the resident pressed the caller for information about where he was calling from, the caller hung up, according to the patrol.
Legitimate police officers would not ask for that kind of information over the phone, and the patrol warned people to be cautious about providing anyone with personal information over the phone.
