Two girls, ages 2 and 6, found safe after abduction in Olathe

A stolen vehicle with two children inside was found Tuesday night after Olathe police issued an Amber Alert to get help from the public.

The vehicle, a maroon 2009 GMC Acadia, had been stolen about 6 p.m. from outside a tire shop in the 400 block of South Kansas Avenue, according to police.

Two young girls were in the vehicle when a man got inside and drove away. The girls were ages 2 and 6.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m., Olathe police announced that they had found the vehicle about a mile away, near East Park and North Buchanan street. The children were inside the vehicle and apparently safe.

The man who stole the vehicle, described as being in his 40s, remained at large. The investigation continued.
