Police identify man found dead in midtown KC

Police have identified the man who was found dead early Monday afternoon in midtown Kansas City.

The victim was identified as William Maze, 58, of Kansas City. Police think he was stabbed.

Officers responded just after noon to a report of gunshots in the 4500 block of Virginia Avenue. Arriving officers found Maze’s body in the front yard of a home. It appeared he had been stabbed, police said.

A witness told officers that Maze and another man had been inside the home when they became involved in an altercation. Both men ran outside before the victim collapsed.

As the second man ran from the scene, a witness shot at him.
