Kansas City police investigated a stabbing Tuesday night that left one person dead near 13th Street and Woodland Avenue.
Police Chief Darryl Forté posted a tweet shortly before 8 p.m. that said a suspect in the stabbing was barricaded in a building near 13th and Woodland. Forté said a police negotiator would try to resolve the situation peacefully.

Police were first called to the scene shortly after 7 p.m. and found a victim outside an apartment. The officers began CPR on the person and he was transported to a hospital, where he was declared dead.
Negotiators tried for several hours to talk to the suspect. A tactical team tried to enter the residence but backed away when the suspect became “combative,” police said.
The suspect was taken into custody shortly before midnight after he came out of the apartment. He was taken to a hospital to be treated for a small cut.
