Independence police rescue Christmas for burglary victims

Members of an Independence family hid in their house early Thursday afternoon as three intruders took some of the family’s possessions, including Christmas gifts.

The burglars never got to enjoy the stolen goods, however.

Police headed to the scene of the 12:50 p.m. break-in spotted three suspects in a pickup truck leaving the area of the home in the 3200 block of Thornbird Street.

Officers gave chase. At U.S. 50 and Easly Road near Lake Lotawana, the fleeing driver finally pulled over. Police arrested one person who stayed with the truck, and they chased and arrested two others who tried to run away.

Police returned the stolen property to the victims.

Felony charges are expected to be filed against the suspects, police said.
