Kansas City man pleads guilty to threatening water supply

A Kansas City man pleaded guilty in federal court Monday to making a hoax telephone call with a false threat to contaminate the public water supplies of four Midwestern cities.

Manuel Garcia, 70, admitted that he made several phone calls in October threatening water supplies of Kansas City, St. Louis, Wichita and Topeka. An FBI agent recognized Garcia’s voice from a previous case in which Garcia had pleaded guilty to making telephone threats.

Garcia faces up to five years in prison without parole, plus a fine of up to $250,000, when he is sentenced.
