Kansas City man guilty in 2012 shooting
A Jackson County jury on has convicted a 28-year-old man in the shooting death that occurred in October 2012 in south Kansas City.
Bryant E. Lasley of Kansas City was found guilty Friday of second-degree murder, robbery and armed criminal action in the slaying of Mark Shears, 26. Investigators linked Lasley to the shooting through DNA evidence taken from cigarette butts found at the crime scene.
According to court records, Lasley and another defendant agreed to meet Shears on Oct. 16, 2012, for a drug deal. When Shears drove to meet the defendants in the 10700 block of Greenwood Road, they robbed him and Lasley shot him several times.
Lasley will be sentenced Jan. 15, according to court records.
