Kansas City man convicted of murder in 2013 robbery gone bad
A Jackson County jury convicted a Kansas City man of participating in an attempted robbery that left the victim dead.
Willie J. Gibson Jr., 26, allegedly set up the robbery of James Jackson, 29, on July 11, 2013.
Gibson stood outside Jackson’s vehicle talking to him through the driver’s side window as another robber fired the gun, court records said. Jackson tried to drive away but crashed in the area of 20th Street and Denver Avenue in Kansas City.
Jurors convicted Gibson late Wednesday of second-degree murder, attempted robbery and two counts of armed criminal action, prosecutors said. He will be sentenced Dec. 16.
