Live ammo found on Leawood playground

A pistol magazine containing several live .45-caliber rounds of ammunition was found Tuesday on the playground of a Leawood Elementary school.

A student immediately notified staff of the school at 2400 W. 123d Street and police were called.

As a precaution, officers from Leawood and the Blue Valley School District searched outside and inside the school and the adjacent Leawood Middle School, but no weapon or any other ammunition was found.

Parents of the students at the elementary and middle schools were notified of the incident.
