Motorist killed in wreck with KCPD vehicle

A Kansas City woman died early Tuesday when a police SUV that had the right of way struck her vehicle at 83rd Street and the Paseo, police said.

Police said that Chandra Weaver, 48, had been drinking alcohol before the crash, and that her drinking was a contributing factor to the crash.

The wreck happened about 1 a.m. An eastbound black Pontiac Grand Am stopped at a stop sign at 83rd Street before pulling into the intersection, where the southbound police patrol vehicle hit it.

The officer driving the patrol vehicle tried to avoid the collision but was unable to do so, according to initial reports.

The driver, Weaver, died at the scene. The two officers were treated at a hospital for minor injuries.
