A Kansas City man is facing 14 charges, including rape, kidnapping and sodomy, in a series of incidents from April 2013 to January of this year.

Tajuan L. Barnes, 29, was in the Jackson County jail Thursday after prosecutors charged him with 14 felony counts that also included sexual abuse and robbery. Barnes was arrested and charged in October and has been in custody while the case works through the courts.

Police said DNA linked Barnes to four incidents beginning on April 24, 2013, when a woman told police that a man approached her in a car and threatened her with a gun, forcing her into sex acts.

More than a year later, on Dec. 26, 2014, a 26-year-old woman told police that a man she had met in Westport attacked her in the stairwell of a Kansas City apartment building.

Barnes was also linked to two incidents this year, on Jan. 16 and Jan. 26. In both instances, women told police they were lured into the stairwell of a building and then attacked.

Barnes remained in custody Thursday in lieu of a $500,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 9.
