Excelsior Springs man is charged with firing at deputies during weekend manhunt in rural Ray County
Clay County prosecutors have filed charges against an Excelsior Springs man captured after a weekend manhunt that spilled over into Ray County.
Anthony R. Stevenson, 44, faces charges of felony assault on a law enforcement officer, armed criminal action, resisting arrest and tampering with a vehicle.
Prosecutors accused Stevenson of firing at officers while fleeing arrest over a two-day period Friday and Saturday. Clay County deputies had unsuccessfully tried to stop Stevenson on Friday in a vehicle that had been reported stolen. He was eventually found hiding in a culvert in Ray County about 2 p.m. Saturday.
Stevenson was held Thursday in the Clay County jail. Bond was set at $500,000. He is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 19.
