62-year-old man is charged in Kansas City bank robbery

A 62-year-old man who was chased down and tackled by a security guard after a Kansas City bank was robbed Tuesday was charged Thursday in federal court.

Sidney Allen Williams was charged in U.S. District Court in Kansas City with using a gun to rob the Bank Midwest branch at 7904 Ward Parkway.

According to court documents, Williams brandished a handgun during the robbery.

After he fled with money, a bank security guard chased him and tackled Williams across the street. A passer-by helped the guard until police arrived.

When questioned later, Williams said that the gun was not loaded and that he wanted to go back to prison, according to court documents.
